Winsom shaped sun louver system

A hospital that makes people feel warm and cozy

Whenever I see the Hamad General Hospital Surgical Building, I feel an overwhelming sense of warmth. It was designed by Khatib & Alami, this iconic structure located in Doha, Qatar. Established in 1982, exemplifies a modern comprehensive hospital architecture.

The geometric patterns adorning its fa?ade resemble blooming flowers, symbolizing vibrant vitality and eternal life. At night, the building transforms into a starry spectacle, casting a warm glow against the cold night sky—a poetic tribute to hope and healing.

This giant starry sky image is composed of Winsom L-shaped sun louvers. The project used a total of 27,500 meters of L-shaped sunshade louvers, comprising 5,419 individual pieces with nearly 30 sizes, even louvers of the same size have different cut designs.

The most creative aspect is the light strips embedded within the geometric lines formed by the sun louvers. During the day, they make the floral patterns more distinct, while at night they transform into shimmering starlight.

Beyond its unique design, the primary mission of the sun louver is to block direct sunlight. Sunlight filters through the perforated louvers, softened and glare-free, gently spilling into the interior, creating dappled light and shadow that changes with different lighting conditions.

Doesn't this make the hospital feel much less dull and cold?"
