Clarice Pears Building

PART.01

Project overview

In 2017, the University of Glasgow campus development plan of 1 billion pounds (about 9 billion yuan) was approved, which is one of the largest education facilities projects in Scotland's history, including the Clarice Pears Building, University of Glasgow completed this time. The Clarice Pears Building is expected to cost around £50 million and will become the new home of the University's School of Health & Wellbeing. The project is designed by Atkins Architects. The building is named after Clarice Pears, mother of the three founders of Pears Foundation. The building will be used to hold joint seminar series, workshops and knowledge exchange events, as well as developing new multi-disciplinary post-graduate courses.

PART.02

Stone honeycomb panel curtain wall

As a well-known public comprehensive ancient university, the University of Glasgow perfectly retains all the features of medieval Gothic architecture.

Although the project is a new building, its architectural style both inherits the characteristics of the surrounding old buildings and the concise, bright and fashionable features of modern buildings. The architect first thought stone as a material that can maximize the two characteristics.

The Indian black stone is selected for this project, which has high hardness and good extendability. Only its 7mm thickness is used to form a stone honeycomb panel with aluminum honeycomb plate by hot pressing. Its flatness and strength are greatly improved, while its weight is greatly reduced. In the design of Clarice Pears Building, the architect not only used stone honeycomb panels as curtain wall decoration, but also used as curtain wall line decoration.

Therefore, stone honeycomb panel is no longer a simple flat panel, but an irregular polygonal stone honeycomb panel combined with the shape: L-shaped, J-shaped, U-shaped, Z-shaped, and more irregular shape. The irregular shape stone honeycomb panel not only makes the processing difficulty doubled, but also requires higher processing accuracy.

PART.03

Customized solutions

As a professional manufacturer of metal composite panel, Winsom adopts the industry-leading processing technology, and its corner splicing is treated with special processes to weaken its joints and make them smooth transition, creating the illusion of integrated molding. All the stone honeycomb panel required by the project are processed in the factory, so as to ensure the accuracy of finished product. It can be installed after unpacking at the site, without any secondary processing, and the installation is simple and fast.

Installation with clamp

High safety factor

At the same time, in order to ensure the installation strength and safety of stone honeycomb panel, Winsom's technical team recommended EIC20C-7T system. Its built-in installation extrusion and clamp installation system are scientific and reasonable, which not only meet the thermal movement of the curtain wall, but also make stone honeycomb panel uniformly stressed as a whole. More importantly, this installation system also passed EU standard blasting test, with a higher safety factor.

PART.04

Write the story of Winsom and Glasgow University

The surface of (Indian black) stone honeycomb panel of Clarice Pears Building of Glasgow University is made of bush-hammered. The surface is concave and convex, and the texture is strong. It not only makes the stone decoration more retro, but also has a sense of vicissitudes after years. This unique quality coincides with the surrounding ancient buildings.

The reason why Indian black stone is widely used is absolutely more than this. Indian black has a unique texture and color formed naturally. It silently tells the secrets of nature and reveals a thick sense of history while beautiful decoration.

Due to its flatness, safety and practicality, Winsom stone honeycomb panel will also always adorn the University of Glasgow. Through the vicissitudes of life, they tell the story of Winsom and the University of Glasgow.
